Emerging Technologies Course

The course of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Szeged explores the most pressing economic issues

The Emerging Technologies course focused on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCU/S) technologies. The Green Technology Readiness Research Group believes it is essential to share the potential of CCU/S technologies beyond professional circles, reaching a broader audience. To support this mission, team members delivered guest lectures to master’s students.

During these lectures, students gained insight into the economic evaluation methods of emerging technologies and the challenges associated with them. They also explored the complexity of CCU/S technologies and the factors influencing their development. The interactive sessions encouraged students to share their thoughts and perspectives on the topic.

Following the lectures, the first structured debate was held, where students formed two teams to argue for and against the statement:

"The widespread adoption of CCU technologies will significantly improve people’s quality of life."

Each team presented the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities, and challenges of the technology. Two weeks later, the teams switched sides—those who had previously argued in favor now opposed the statement, and vice versa—building on the insights from the first debate.

Through this process, students gained a deeper understanding of ongoing research in the CCU/S field, improved their debating skills, and developed critical perspectives on emerging technologies.
