The study of our Electrocatalysis Research Group became one of the highlighted publications of March 2024!
The VII. Department of Chemical Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Magyar Tudományos Akadémia, MTA) plans to present new publications in the different fields of chemistry on a monthly basis. The purpose of doing so is to introduce the new and interesting results of chemistry to a wide range of society in addition to specialists.
The Electrocatalysis Research Group at University of Szeged (SZTE) researches various chemical energy conversion methods related to renewable energies within the framework of the National Laboratory for Renewable Energy (NLRE) project. With the help of electrochemical power-to-X technologies, excess energy from renewable energies can be directly used for the synthesis of high energy density and/or valuable chemicals. Hence, the storage of renewable electricity can be achieved.
In the study, the research group showed how important it is during carbon monoxide reduction – when different alcohols, methane and ethylene can be produced – to fine-tune the microenvironment of the catalyst: it is critical for achieving higher performance.
