What has the NLRE provided? VI.

Dávid István Kis, head of the Hydrogen Technology Research Center of John von Neumann University, shares his insights.

With the support of the National Laboratory for Renewable Energy (NLRE) project, John von Neumann University has become one of Hungary’s leading centers for hydrogen technology research. This support has contributed to the group’s work in several areas, including the manufacturing of fuel cell components, the development of polymer–composite hydrogen storage tanks, and the establishment of expertise in hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine research. The knowledge gained through these projects has been directly utilized in revenue-generating industrial services, significant subcontracted research and development, and new domestic hydrogen developments. The international publications and project collaborations established within the framework of the project have initiated new bilateral (two-party, based on international cooperation) grant applications and innovation partnerships.

A major achievement is the development of the Neumann H₂ Vehicle Technology Test Platform, which integrates hydrogen storage, fuel cell systems, and control technologies, earning the 2024 Transport Innovation Award.
